The History of Santa’s Elves

Santa’s elves are full of mystery, so it’s difficult to know where elves came from and how they came to be Santa’s little helpers. It is believed that elves already lived in the North Pole, way before Santa arrived to call the snowy land his home. They were all born and bred in the magical country and have remained alone and a secret for many years, until Santa found them.

The elves welcomed the big, jolly man in red into their homes and he quickly took a liking to them. He shared with the elves that he needed a bigger space to build his workshop of wonder and told them all about his mission of delivering presents to children all over the world. This excited the elves and, being the kind-hearted beings that elves are, they offered to help build Santa’s workshop. From this, Santa gave a new home to the elves and created a happy community that is no longer lonely or lost!

The Importance of Santa and His Elves

Santa and his elves are very important because without them, there would be no magic on Christmas! The elves do so much work for Santa and they’re the ones who build all the presents that you receive on Christmas Day. Without the elves, Santa wouldn’t have any presents to deliver! Santa runs the whole workshop and delivers presents in one night all over the world, spreading joy and magic to children. He is the main man who creates that exciting Christmas feel, but the elves are the ones behind the magic. With his elves, Santa brings families together through the sharing of gifts and the feeling of joy. Without this, Christmas wouldn’t be even half as special.

Plus, elves make the toys, put together decorations, look after the workshop, keep the reindeer in good shape and help Santa deliver every last present on Christmas Eve. Santa’s elves are hard-working, kind and brave, doing everything they can to make you (and every other child) have the best Christmas ever!

Names of the Elves of Santa

You may know a little about the faithful friends of Santa, but you probably never knew their names. Yes, we know the names of every elf that helps Santa Claus make a magical Christmas Day! There is a whole army of elves that work for Santa now, but the workshop began with only six. These six are the main helpers who have very important jobs, and they make everything run smoothly. All the other elves look to them for help because they are the original elves, as well as the oldest residents of the North Pole!

The six names of the elves of Santa are:

  • Alabaster Snowball:
This elf is very important because he is in charge of Santa’s famous Naughty and Nice List! He has a good judge of character and lets Santa know if you’ve been naughty or nice- so you will have to be really nice if you ever meet him!
  • Pepper Minstix:
This sly and secretive elf is the protector of Santa’s secret village in the North Pole. He is tough, serious and a little scary, but it’s only because he’s protecting the people he loves. He’s basically Head of Elf Security!
  • Bushy Evergreen:
The clever one of the bunch. Bushy is the inventor of the magic toy-making machine that Santa uses to make all the toys. He is shy but loveable.
  • Sugarplum Mary (AKA Mary Christmas):
Mary is Mrs Claus’s assistant and is in charge of the kitchen at the North Pole. She makes all the sweets and treats for children (and the elves). She is a motherly figure who looks after everyone, but she can also be extremely chatty.
  • Shinny Upatree:
This elf is super important because he is the oldest one and is Santa’s oldest friend. Santa found Shinny first, and he became the co-founder of the secret village and workshop! He was a lonely elf with no friends or family, so Santa took him in. He has a big heart but can be a little grumpy.
  • Wunorse Openslae:
If you’re wondering how to say this elf’s name, just say it out loud! There’s no surprise that this mischievous guy is in charge of Santa’s sleigh. He takes care of all the reindeer and keeps the sleigh in top condition. He can be a little silly and playful at times.

How Old Are Santa’s Elves?

So, how old are Santa’s elves? Well, the original and oldest six are as old as the world! They have been around since anyone can remember, living through generation after generation. However, they don’t look very old, they still look very young. We wanted to know their secret for looking young and living forever, but, apparently, it’s top-secret magic that we can’t know about.

Every elf in the North Pole is magic, and so, when a new elf is born, they quickly grow and then stop growing (at around 25 years old), looking young forever. This means there are some really old elves and some child elves who are growing and learning the elf code.

Facts About Santa’s Elves

Let’s uncover some fun facts about Santa’s elves to understand them more!

Elves Wear Colourful Clothes to Match Their Jobs

Every elf has their very own outfit with different colours to match their special job. This helps everyone understand what they do at the workshop while expressing their personality. Toy makers wear the traditional green and red outfit with tool belts, Reindeer and Sleigh staff wear fuzzy coats and snow boots and Housekeeping elves wear either glittery dresses (for girls) or glittery suits (for boys).

They Are Toy Making Experts

Santa’s elves are really good at their job. They are the best toy makers that you can find in the whole world. Each elf has one area of toy making that they are extra good at, such as making dolls or putting technology together.

They can create toys and gadgets super quickly, making hundreds in the blink of an eye! This is because they have special hammers and tools that help them work quickly.

Santa’s Elves Love Sugar

Of course, every elf absolutely loves sugar. They all have a sweet tooth and is the only thing they want to eat. Trust us, we tried to give them some fruit, but it wasn’t sweet enough! They munch on candy canes, golden syrup, hot chocolate and cookies. Santa told us he allows them to eat sugar because it’s actually what gives them the energy to work long hours. But don’t get any ideas, we humans work differently from elves, so we need a balanced diet!

They Speak a Secret Language

The elves speak a whole secret language that Santa had to learn. This means that Santa and his elves talk to each other in Elvish when working in the workshops or sending secret messages to one another!

They’re Tiny But Strong

Elves are very small, but they are super strong. They are the definition of small but mighty. They can easily carry heavy bags of toys and lift up Santa’s sleigh! Their magic gives them this superpower.
